Janice- I simply pureed whatever I made my family for dinner- I bought a little grinder at walmart (what a lifesaver) For example- if you make some chicken for your family- put a little in the chopper and thin it out with some chicken broth- (any kind of meat would be fine) also- things like cottage cheese and egg drop soup are high in protein and already in a puree consistency- Also most baked/poached fish are so flaky, you don't need to puree them- just chew them well- Best wishes Kim

Got a crockpot? I cooked turkey breast, chicken breast, a beef roast and a pork tenderloin (not all at the same time)and pureed some for me with the gravy made from the juices. Sliced the meats for my family and it was very good. You can also use some cream soups to thin the meat/poultry purees to add some flavor. Only the beef sat a little "heavy" in my pouch. It might have been that I ate too much of it, because it really tasted good at the time. It takes some work, but it is worth it in my book. I wanted to be sure to get the protein in for healing. I did not start using protein shakes until about 2 months out!

Hi Janice, I too had Dr. Bodner, What I ate was blended Chicken salad, regular egg salad(very finely chopped) most of the time. In additon, I would eat a couple of bites of a baked sweet potato, great for vitamins, no need to worry about the carb in it, A couple of teaspoons don't amoutn to much. At this point concentrate on staying hydrated, water, popsicles etc. Best of Luck MaryLyn 5/21/03 -115 Dr. B's support group meets every 4th tuesday....FYI

I also tried just eating what I made the family and after my pureed grilled cheese (YUCK!) I could'nt do it anymore, it grossed me out. I lived on cottage cheese, pinto n cheese from taco bell, scrambled eggs and protien drinks. That did'nt last long and I had to force myself to eat at that stage anyways. Good luck!

if your in the puree stage i don't see why your doctor wouldn't want you to use a protien shake to make sure you are able to get in your protien. it wouldn't be used as a "drink" but take the place of a meal.after 3 months or when you are able to get in all your protien by food he has us stop taking the shake. my doctor also only wants us to drink non-calorie drinks. what is the difference between trying to find something high in protien and turn it into liquid or drinking a protien shake? are you sure you understood your doctor? i'm just confused.

Hello, I pureed my pot roast with a bit of onion and gravy, it looked like the worst ^%$# you've seen but was very tasty and I also pureed a chicken enchilada that was way yummy too. I have a kitchen aid food processor that really tears stuff up. It was great to eat this stuff, had no problems except with wanting more whn my tummy said NO! Good Luck, Ann

Janice, I don't understand why your doctor does not want you to have protein drinks - you won't be able to finish an entire drink anyway at 9 days. And I could not tolerate pureed foods until 4-5 weeks - it was hard to finish a spoon of potatos. Finally, I spoke with my Nutritionist who did not agree with my doctor's diet - so I suggest you speak with your nutritionist who is has experience in WLS. Good Luck - and remember each day will be better than the day before.

I wish you the best... I too am always a bit bum-fuzzled when I hear about a doc who doesn't "want" his or her patients to be on protein drinks... I'm eight months out and am STILL unable to get the necessary 70-80gms protein in daily without my protein drinks. I think I'd clarify this with your surgeon and or nutritionist and find out WHY no protein drinks! God bless & take care!!

Somebody said . . . <<Janice, I don't understand why your doctor does not want you to have protein drinks - you won't be able to finish an entire drink anyway at 9 days.>>
To which I reply . . . REALLY? I was drinking 4 protein shakes/day at 9 days out. I was on clear liquids and protein shakes only for 1 month.
Careful about all-encompassing answers . . . your answers are not the same as everyone else's . . . that's why we say YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).
