Question:
Tomorrow I will be 2 years post op from Open RNY...
I've lost 100 lbs., but have fallen back into bad habits (eating too much sugar and grazing), and am re-dedicating myself to eating "the pouch" way starting tomorrow - on my anniversary :) Hopefully, it's not too late and my "window" is not permanently closed! Just wondering if anyone would like to join me in re-committing yourselves to eating protein first, not drinking with meals, and trying to jump-start some more weight loss? I would like to lose 10-15 more lbs. You can email me direct if you'd like to join me !! :) — michelle T. (posted on February 3, 2004)

Hi Michell, Congrats on your sucess. I will be 3 years post on in April
and I find it quite hard to stick to the actual pouch rules. I find myself
using the Atkins approach quite often. I too would like to lose another
10lbs, but by no means am losing sleep over it. I'm sure this could be
ascertained simply by toning and more excersise. I notice that I
personally am a 70/30 dieter. I hate to use the word "dieter"
but I wanted to get my point across. I try not to deprive my self of
things that I REALLY want. I feel that if I did that, it would end in
destruction. I will soon be purchasing an eliptical/precor or a
crosstrainer for my home to help me along the way. I do have a membership
to Ballys' but get VERY FRUSTRATED when I go after work and have to wait
over an hour for a cardio machine. This is why I will just slowly build up
my own home gym. As far as your grazing is concerned, I personally have a
HUGE sweet tooth and find that making sugar free treats really helps. I
try to make them low carb as well which is not always easy. I would
suggest to make a weekly meal plan for yourself, planning high protein low
carb meals before you go to the grocery store. To me it feels like it
helps. I know I rambled, just know that there are others like you, please
don't stress yourself out too much about an extra 10lbs that you want to
lose. I think that even are skinny minnies out there feel as if they need
to lose that extra 10 lbs.

I understand how you feel except that I worry about the 5 pounds that I
fluctuate back and forth with. As long as I don't go past 130, I'm good.
I feel like I'm still in control. I'm a little over 2 years post-op and I
struggle with that 5 pounds but it's better then struggling with 50!!
Exercise more and watch your calorie content (1250 calories) and the weight
will come off.

I'm with you on this one! I started at a weight of 263 and have only
gotten down to 170 and it has been almost 2 years! I'm hoping that by
"re-dedicating" myself as well, I can lose a bit more weight. My
goal weight is 130-140 and I just want to get a little closer.

I am a little over 2 years out also, and just 3 weeks ago started eating by
the glycemic index with high protein foods, and only healthy carbs (South
Beach). It is a great healthy way of eating especially for us post-ops. I
have lost 8 lbs. and want to lose 5-10 more, not really sure until I get
there. I still haven't been able to drink with my meals, my problem was
that I was hungry all the time. It was because of my carb consumption.
Now after starting SB way of eating, I am rarely hungry, and have to remind
myself to grab a lite snack to keep my blood sugar level and metabolism up.
Good for you for re-dedicating yourself!!!
