Question:
When I stand up fast, I always get a little light headed, and I was wondering
if anybody else experienced it, and if so, do you know what causes it? any help would be appreciated. — Katrina K. (posted on January 21, 2004)

I have been getting dizzy and feeling light headed for about two weeks now.
It is mainly when I have been laying down then I get up. I heard my iron
may be low so I started taking iron a few times a week, I hope that works!

There could be a number of reasons as to why you are getting lightheaded. I
am 16 months out, and still get dizzy at times. I went to the Dr.s, and had
a CBC done, and everything came back fine. My problem was, I wasn't eating
enough,or drinking enough fluids. Even after 16 months,I still have to
remind myself to eat. What I'm tring to say, is go see your Dr. Untill then
stand up slowly. Good Luck

There are so many reasons you could be experiencing lightheadedness when
you stand up. Your blood pressure could be low, your potassium could be
low, you could be dehydrated or not eating enough....the list is long.
Best to mention it to your doctor and get him/her to do a little
investigation.

YES, same thing with me...My blood pressure for some reason now runs low- I
really don't know what to do about it..I just have to remind myself to get
up slow...I now know what the saying "weak in the knees" means-
good luck Kim

It's low blood pressure. I have it happen all the time. Stand up slower
and you shouldn't have any problems with it.

It is called orthostatic hypotension...You need to make position changes
slower that
should solve it ....Some meds could cause this as can your weight loss and
nutritional status, might even need lab work complete to evaluate further It
is best to inform your PCP,as he might have more suggestions..........God
Bless......Donna

Ditto here with the low blood pressure and the orthostatic (also called
positional) hypotension. My BP is down in the 90/60 range most of the
time and my pulse is in the low 40's. In fact, my last visit to my PCP
resulted in an EKG being taken because he was concerned about the slow
pulse, but the EKG was perfect...JR

That used to happen to me for the first 7 months, off and on. My blood
pressure runs low now that I am post-op. But back when I had those light
headed spells I was dehydrated and need to increase my protein intake long
term. but for the short term I had to get some food and water down in me
to get instead relief. But by drastically increasing my water intake
usually just salved my light headedness over the long term. I do remember
I felt that way in the mornings, but by eating and drinking more by late
morning and the afternoon.

That happened to me too, even blacked out momentarily once. It was from
dehydration.

I get the same way,it could mean you are low iron, I was anemic and ended
up having to have a blood tranfusion and still have problems with
dizziness, my blood pressure also runs low, like around 96/63... you might
want to call your doctor and ask him/her to be sure!!!

Hi! I had this same question for my surgeon and he said it is orthostatic
hypotension (or hyper) sorry not sure which. He told me that a lot of post
ops have this but that it will go away when Im done losing and my weight
stablized. I lost 100 pounds in 4 months and he said that as I keep losing
it is totally normal for it to happen.
