One of the best choices that I make at a fast food place is Wendy's chili -
I've been having that since 3 weeks out. You can also get a grilled
chicken sandwich when you are a bit further out and throw away the bun.
(This usually lasts e a couple of meals even at 17 months)...JR (open RNY

I'm 5 weeks out and I've been eating out since about 3 weeks out. At taco
Bell I have pintos & cheese and the meat and cheese of one taco. At
Capt D's go with the baked or broiled fish. I do Pizza Hut buffet, Burger
King, KFC with out the skin. With kids 11 & 9 we eat out a lot. Just
make your portions SMALL and make wise food choices. Good Luck, Robin W

I too find myself dining out a lot too because of work and a hecktic busy
life. At each place you go to think, high protein, low fat when making
your choices. At taco bell I like the pintos and cheese, but sometimes I
will splurge in a taco or burito (yes I eat the tortilla). My first and
favorite choice is Wendy's Chili. I have only been to BK once and got the
grilled chicken whopper and split it with my husband. I will not return
to BK because I dumped on the chicken. When I looked at the nutrition
board, I saw sugar as an added ingredient. I also read in the newspaper
that they add sugar to their burgers to make them taste better. I tolerate
breads well, so I go to Quiznos and subway and get a 6" at subway and
it lasts 2 meals or a diamond cut triangle at quizno's. Fried foods don't
agree with me so that is out of the question. Long Johns has a baked fish
meal I get and hubby eats the rest of the plate and then orders fried items
for himself. McDonald's grilled chicken agrees with me. And yes shame on
me, when they were 49 cents, I ate a cheeseburger with only one bun.
Boston Market has great turkey and vegetables as the sides. I usually get
the kids meal and give away the drink and cornbread. Like others have
said, portion control is the key. If I am by myself, I don't want
leftovers, so I go to Taco bell or Wendy's. My husband will help me eat
from my plate unhealthy choices or things that are too large.

TWo of the best places I found for quick fast food are Taco Bell and
Wendy's. When I was a fairly new post-op, I often had the pintos and
cheese or ate part of the inside of a burrito. I love Wendy's baked
potatoes and salads. Didn't try them, though until I was a couple of
months out. At Captain D's, try the crab legs. Gives you something to do
while you're dining and great protein, too. Steamed shrimp would be good
too.

At Taco Bell you can request any item without its tortilla. They will put
the "fillings" in a bowl for you. I get a burrito and it is kind
of like a taco salad without the chips.
Arby's has good roast beef.
Watch the sauce . . . it has sugar in it. Mexican food: Fajitas are good,
just get the meat and beans and tell them to keep the rice, chips, and
tortillas. For Chinese I get mushu pork (or chicken) and eat it with a
fork. Watch the plum sauce as it has sugar.
Some of the fast food
salads are not too bad as long as you watch the sugar content of the
dressing. Soups can work for you and sandwiches also if you watch how much
of the bread you eat. (I can't eat at Quizno's as they must put sugar in
SOMETHING. I dumped BIG TIME on 1/2 of a chicken sandwich!)

Burger King also has great chili. Always a good standby...

As an early post-op you can't go wrong with chili from either Wendys or
Burger King (I liked BK's better). When your cleared to eat meat and
salads, many of the fast food places have salads with meat in them (like
Wendys). I also like to get the grilled chicken from Kentucky Fried
(called the tender roast), or the grilled chicken baguette Santa Fe from
Burger King. I usually discard 1/2 the bread and at almost 2 years post-op
can eat 1/2 to 3/4 of one. Subway and Quizno's on occasion-the Subway 6
incher I can eat 4 or so inches with bread and Quiznos has these cute mini
melts which are the perfect size-meatball for me! I think the key is to
get something that has protein in it, go easy on the bread and skip things
like french fries and soda. I never thought I could skip fries or soda but
truthfully I know I will get filled up very fast so just stick to the
sandwich...

A note on Taco Bell - a lot of them are going to the Fresca menu. They
take out fattening sauces and cheese and replace them with a great pico de
gallo. Cuts way down on their fat/calories. I usually get the grilled
steak fresca style and eat half the tortilla. Other good choices are
grilled chicken salads at just about any fast food restaurant. Ruby
Tuesday's has a new Lo Carb menu. I personally count everything (calories,
fat, etc), so I am careful about some of the stuff as it's high in
calories, but very tasty.
PS Nice to hear someone admit they eat tortillas/buns, etc. If I'm hungry
enough, I'll eat the shells or buns and just make up the protein later. I
do try to limit my carbs to mostly complex, but sometimes half a burger
with buns galore calls my name loudly! :P

Taco bell - eat the inside out of almost any burrito! (My favorite is a
beef mexi melt.)
Chic-fil-A - grilled chicken
Wendy's - chili
Kentucky Fried Chicken - green beans, chicken, beans
Arby's - I eat the inside of a regular roast beef sandwich, and 1 or 2
cheesesticks. (The outside of the cheesesticks are breaded, so take it
easy or pick the breading off of them.)
Quizno's - cup of chili
Sonic - mozzarella cheese sticks and a diet lime-aid (lime-aid is
carbonated, so this is only a TREAT for every once in a while)
McDonald's - I eat the inside of any sandwich I want without the bun
Krystal's - chili, or ONE Krystal (and pick off some of that bread too!)

I like the guts of the quesadillas - chicken or steak. I also enjoy the
taco salads and toss the shell (ok, I eat a bite of the shell lol). I love
the steak soft-shell taco with lime sauce and ditch the shell (the whole
thing!). I can eat two of these minus the shells. And that lime sauce is
awesome!

I eat the steak or chicken quesadilla, or a chicken soft taco. I don't even
consider throwing out the tortilla.
