Question:
Does your age determine how fast you lose?

I think that depends on the person. Of course, those who are more active
and follow the guidelines (eating your protein, drinking your water) lose
more consistently. I'm 56 and have not been real diligent in the water
drinking so I probably haven't lost as much as I could. I had my surgery
almost 9 mos ago and have slowed down to 1 - 2 lbs a week. I hope to reach
my 100 pound mark by Christmas.

I am sure it does because usually the older you are the less active you
are. Also the more you yo yo dieted over the years seems to be a factor. I
am 54, 55 next month. I had surgery 13 months ago. I have had to work
really hard to lose for the last 6 months. I work out in the gym 1 hour a
day for 5, sometimes 6 days a week and make myself stop eating when I know
I have had enough, even though I don't feel full. I am not saying it would
have been any different if I were 20 years younger but this is the way it
is now.

i don't think it does. I am 56 and had surgery in Feb. I was called a
"lightweight" starting out at 228.6. I am only moderately active
just the usuall daily things, no exercise routine. I hate exercise. I
have lost better than a lot of the young gals who do all the exercise.

I think age is a factor, but also genetics, the length of time one has been
overweight and metabolic factors come into play in how fast you lose. I am
48, and had surgery 10/02. I have been stuck for 7 months. I weigh now
what I weighed after my second child was born 20 years ago. I also have
been overweight since I was a child (First heard the word "diet"
at age 7). I have been told that I look just like one of my grandmothers -
of course, the one that was short and fat! LOL! (Not the other one that
weighed 90 lbs soaking wet with rocks in her pockets!) I also did a lot of
dieting over the years - did Optifast twice. I think that helped to mess up
my metabolism. I am currently trying something to restart the weight loss
that is really, really hard for me. I recently had an upper respiratory
infection, so it seemed like the time to really slow down on the exercise
and watch my intake for a couple of weeks. I have not gained any weight -
in fact down a couple of pounds - but hope to get back to working our like
I was and see if I don't start losing again. Bottom line - age is only one
factor, and everyone is different!

Well, I can tell you about my sister and myself. I started at 248 at
5'7" at age 45. My sister started at 5'8" and 260ish at age 32.
We She had her Lap RNY in 7/02 and mine was in 2/03 . We used the same
Drs.. Well, she lost quicker than I did in the beginning, and then I
followed behind her. I was the winner w/ lots of hand me down clothes.
Now, I at 9 1/2 months and her at 17 months, we are neck and neck. I weigh
140 and and she is around 147. We both fluctuate by 2 to 3 pounds. She
wears Mediums on top and 8-10's on the bottom, and I wear 6-8's on bottom
and Mediums and Larges on top. I went down from a 40D to a 36-38D and she
was a 42D I think and is now a 36 C or D. Our body types were pretty much
the same and we both work out a the gym 3x a week, she with a trainer and
me alone. Go figure. Same genes, different ages, similar stats and body
types pre-op. The way she started out so quickly, I never thought I'd
catch up, no less pass her by. Give it time, and you'll be fine. Good
luck.

I would like to thank each of you that responded to my question. I haven't
had the surgery yet. I am working on the prior authorization now. Your
comments were very helpful. Again thanks, Jan
