Question:
Has anyone had a Hysterectomy before they had the Gastric Bypass Surgery

I'll be having my Gastric Bypass Surgery soon and I had a Hysterectomy 12years ago.And I wanted to know if I'm to expect anything unusual.    — Kathleen F. (posted on November 24, 2003)

I am 3 1/2 months post op, and I had a hysterectomy in 1987. The only thing that might be different for you is you have a idea of what the pain of WLS will be like. There is no difference with or without a hysterectomy as far as I can tell.

I had a hysterectomy two years prior to WLS and didn't notice anything unusual. I had also had two C-sections, so was very prepared for pain from surgery. However, I must say, for me, WLS was much easier and less painful than either the hysterectomy or the C-sections! Barb 4/07/03 235/144/130

I had a hysterectomy in 99 at the age of 28. Had my gastric in April of 202. I have lost a total of 184 pounds. The only problem I had was my gallbladder. That came out 6 months after gastric surgery. You'll be fine...Good luck

I had hysterectomy 12 years ago and WLS 2 years ago, I ended up with complications due to severe scar tissue and adhesions that were a result of several surgeries and endometriosis. My surgery was supposed to be done LAP but ended up open due to uncontrolled bleeding. I also ended up having an intestinal blockage because one of the adhesions caused a twisted bowel, resulting in another open surgery. Last year I had to have a hernia repaired. On a positive note I have not had any other complications or problems related to the WLS surgery and believe it or not would do it again. Obviously my situation was a worst case scenario.

My hystie was 13 yrs before my WLS. The two didn't interfere with each other in any way.

I've had gall bladder removal,a hysterectomy, incisional hernia repair (mesh) surgery as a result of the hysterectomy,c-sect, none of these had any effect on my surgery, except maybe prepare me for the discomfort, which I have to say was a lot less than any of the others. The only thing unusual I encountered was lack of pain. I was expecting it to hurt very badly. In reality I used very little pain medication...so little, they thought the pump was broken. I'm lucky to be a quick healer though and was back to work after both surgeries quickly. Best wishes!
