I had surgery on August 7th.I went on Tuesday for my 3 month checkup and
have lost 38.2 pounds.I started out at 230,my doctor told me at three
months I should have lost 15% of my excess weight,I've lost 16%.I asked him
about people losing so much more in a three month period. He told, look what
they have to lose with compared to what you have to lose.He said everyone
loses at a different rate.I think 50 pounds is awesome!!

I had open RYN on August 5, 2003 - I too am 3 months out. I am 5'9 and
weighed 244lbs. After three months my weight is 181!! A loss of 63 lbs.
It does vary from each person - I ride my bike all the time, try to drink
the water and get protein..I recently joined Curves to "tone"
up.....your weight of 50 lbs. is great....just have to stay positive!! Mj

My surgery was on 8-11-03. I had some complications and ended up back in
the hospital for 3 weeks and was on IV nutrition until the end of September
and did not feel like exercising until very recently. I started out at 302
(by the doctor's scales) and now weigh 243 (by my scales). My scales are
within 3 lbs. of my doctor's scales which means I have lost about 56 lbs.
in 3 months. I thought that was slow too. However, on what other diet can
you lose almost 20 lbs. a month? Actually, it is fantastic!! Good Job!!

Surgery was 7/28/03. Started @ 236. Lost 65 lbs so far. I exercise
faithfully (2 mi per nite on the treadmill, free weights, etc.) I was
concerned about slow weight loss with a lower BMI, but so far, so good!

I had open RNY on 8-05-03 and have lost 72 pounds. I started out at 330
and I think it makes a difference if you have more to lose, like I did,
sometimes it comes off a little faster. Things are starting to slow down
though, which is normal. A 50 pound loss is AWESOME!! Like another poster
said, on what diet could you lose 20 pounds a month?! Keep up the great
work, we have nowhere to go but down!!

I had Surgery August 11, 2003. I started at 330 and am currently 266... a
total loss of 64 pounds in three months. Everyone is different and we all
lose at a slightly different pace. I think 50 pounds is EXCELLENT!!! Keep
up the great work and remember there is power to positive thinking. I
update my profile once per week (usually Mondays) so if you ever want to
"check in" to see how the journey is going for me, please do so.
We had surgery only one day apart and are relatively close in starting
weight. Do not get discouraged, even if you hit a plateau. Just remember
we are all individuals and this surgery has given us the gift of regaining
control and losing weight. You are doing awsome!

Eugenia,
I had my surgery 8-11-03. I've lost 67 pounds, and started at 300 like
you. I lost quickly the first 2 months, but now it's about 4 pounds a
week. I try to walk about 4 times a week, and do weights a little. Some
doctors say to eat every 3 hours, and some say only 3 meals a day. I do
the latter, and I've noticed if I don't eat after about 6:00 pm, I tend to
lose faster. Good luck, and God bless!

I had Lap RNY on 8/19. Next week is my three month anniversary and I have
lost "only" 40 pounds. However, I've decided that I am not going
to fret over it since my blood pressure is normal, I am off diabetes
medication that I was on for 20 years and I have been off my CPAP machine
for 3 weeks now. This is just the tip of the iceburg. Yes, my loss is even
slower than yours, and is slower than most that I know. I started out at
260, so am considered a "lightweight", but that doesnt' always
make you feel better. My only concern as a slow loser is if I will get to
the goal my doctor and I set before my loss stops. Otherwise, I'm just
accepting that my body is different than others, and my weight loss is
slow, but has been relatively steady. DOn't fret, compare yourself to
others or otherwise worry if you are following your doctors orders. I'm
preaching to the choir here - lets be content with what we have lost and
focus on the positive - improved health. Not always the easiest thing to
do, but you'll be happier doing it.

Follow your surgeon's plan and give it time. Sometimes the wls game is
about AVERAGES. I had open RNY, 150 cm bypassed on Aug7/03. I lost 60 lbs,
in spurts, the first 3 months. BUT during month 4, the scale DID NOT MOVE,
not 1 lb for a whole month! Now starting month 5 and blam! down 4 lbs in a
week. Each body will lose when it feels like it, some lose steady every
week, some lose a lot 1 week a month. I know now that I will not be a
steady loser but will lose in spurts and that is OK with me. Start wt 302
lbs, current wt 238. 5'4".

I had surgery on 8-25-03 and i am down 66#. I think your on track 50 #
pounds is alot of weight to lose in 3 months. a good way to look at it is
to think of weight loss before surgery and how excited you would have been
with 50 pounds. Sometimes its good to give yourself a reality check like
that. It really helps me when i dont think i am losing oh i started at 301
and i am 240 now. Keep up the good work your doing fine.

HI! My surgery was 8/11/03. and so far, I have only lost 38 pounds. Your
50 sounds pretty good to me! I had a leak, therefore a 2nd surgery, wound
up in ICU on a ventilator for 6 days, then have had 3 endoscopies to open
my gastric outlet! This has been a mess so far for me, and is the reason,
I think, that I have not had a better weight loss. Where you are is
perfect right now! Keep up the good work~!

Thanks so much for your question. I too have wondered the same. My
surgery was on Aug 15. I started at 248 & now weigh 200. Glad to see
I am normal. I have been very lucky. No nausea/vomiting. Can eat &
drink pretty much anything. But in very small amounts. Not much more than
1/2 cup at a time. I do avoid sugar & bread as much as possible but do
not prohibit myself from having anything I want. It feels so good to be
able to eat like a 'normal' person as far as being able to not deprive
myself as I did with diets previously before my surgery. Sounds like you
are doing fine. Keep up the good work.
