Question:
Can we count the diet slurpee from 7-11 as part of our liquid intake?
I have have been drinking the diet slurpee from 7-11 and really like the tast and was wondering if anyone else out there is using it as part of their daily intake of water or should I not count that as part of my liquid? 10 months and down 80 pounds. I know some have lost more at this point but I was a light weight to start with and I am really happy so far. Thanks — myra J. (posted on November 6, 2003)

Hi, yea I know of some ppl who love the 7-11 diet slurpees, and drink them
still. To me though they are alittle sweet tasting, even the crystal light
form the grocery stores, I still can't handle to drink an dI am now 9 mths
post op. But yes I would def consider that part of your daily liquid
intake. And, congrats on your weight loss!

Opinions will vary on this, but my surgeon/nutritionist says that the only
things that count toward "water" intake are those without
caffeine. If I'm not mistaken, aren't the slurpees made with diet
pepsi/coke??? If so, they have caffeine and on my program, I couldn't
count it. I'm also not supposed to have carbonated beverages (or drink
from a straw) until I'm 6 months post-op.

As per the nutritionist/dietician at BTC, if a fluid (such as a Slurpee),
contains caffeine (which a Slurpee DOES), then you can only count 1/2 of
the amount toward fluid. Therefore, if you drink a 24 oz. Diet Pepsi
slurpee, only 12 oz. counts as fluid intake.....this is the same with
caffeinated coffee or other sodas...only 1/2 counts toward your daily fluid
intake. Good luck! And I love those Slurpees too! I hated the Crystal
Light ones, though.

I agree with the only counting 1/2 of the intake, but keep in mind what
happens when a Slurpee melts. It is only about 1/2 of what you thought it
was!! Therefore, I think counting 1/2 is a little overoptimistic. I try to
have my day's water intake then reward myself with a Slurpee-- this way I
can avoid dehydration also.
