Question:
I am just now experiencing pain in my legs...especially at night...
I am starting to experience a pain in my leg(s) that feels something like growing pains felt as a child. I feel this mostly at night (2 occasions), but some during the day. If I get up and walk around, this seems to help quite a bit. Should I be worried? — Marti T. (posted on November 6, 2003)

I had that. Try drinking orange juice, milk, a banana, something like
that. It's more than likely low potassim. Of course, check with your
nutritionist before you take anyone's advice here.

That sounds like restless leg syndrome....there is medicine you can take
for this...but I would call my surgeon and check with them...Hope things
gets better soon

Marti, It doesn't sound like a blood clot but I would definately check
with your Dr. because anytime someone is just a few weeks post-op and
having pain in their legs..the Doc needs to know about it. Please call
your surgeon and have ti checked out. Hope everything works out well.
Good luck.

You could also be having mild muscle cramps if you are not getting enough
fluids in. Make sure you are getting in all your water. I still would
consult with my PCP or surgeon...

I agree with the others, but also add that it may be a calcium deficiency.
Hope you get to the bottom of your problem.

You might want to check with a professional to help find the root cause. I
used to have horrible nighttime leg muscle cramping ("growing
pains"?) in my teen years, researched it, and took extra vitamin E
which seemed to help. If you think you might be lacking in it and decide
go that route, I would suggest Vitamin E "mixed tochopherols" or
get some in food such as peanut butter or nuts. Pure plant-based oils are
good for a body. WARNING: If you're newly post-op or soon to be, don't
EVEN mess with the pills; high doses of vit. E may contribute to inordinate
BLOOD CLOTTING!

Sounds like you need to see your doctor and have your labs done. Leg pains
at night can be many, many causes from vitamin deficiencies, to dehydration
to potassium deficiencies. Best to ask your doctor.

I get pain in my legs whenever I am low on calcium. Make sure you are
taking calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate. I take 1200 mg per day. No
more leg pains. Good luck!
