I did have a migraine the day after surgery, They gave me imitrex for it,
the headache lasted for about 2 days but was much less intense with this
medication. I also had a problem with sinus congestion and itchy eyes, I
guess more like an allergy problem which was kind of strange for me because
I dont usually have allergies. Good Luck to you

I used to get migraines before surgery, but now I get them more frequently.
My doc gave me imitrex also. It does help if you ake it right when the
headache is starting. It seems they are more frequent the week before my
period comes, just adds to the insane pms that I now have after surgery as
well. But hey it is all worth it in my book! Maybe check with your doc
about Imitrex.

I do not suffer from migraines, thank goodness. But I know several
post-ops who do and they seem to have the same incidence of them as a
post-op as they did before surgery. All of them take the same medications
they took as a pre-op.

Unfortunately, I had one the day of surgery, and for 2 days afterwards.
The nurses would ask me how my abdomin was feeling (painwise) and it was
fine but I'd ask them if there was something they could give me for my
head. It hurt terribly. To learn from my mistakes, make sure you doctor
orders you migraine medications for your so the nurses can give it to you
as soon as you need it so you won't have to suffer. The pain meds totally
took away my gastric bypass pain but did nothing for my head.
Good luck.

Yes, my cluster headaches were bad before surgery, and since surgery they
are still bad. I take a preventative medicine, but I forget to take my
pills so its my own fault. My doc gave me Maxalt for them for when I
actually have one and it helps fast!

Yes - I had only had them occaissonally pre-op. Since surgery I have them
nearly daily. It has gotten better, after going through nearly every
standard migraine med in the book. Ended up with a anti-seizure med called
"Topomax." Works better than the other things then neurologists
have prescribed.
Good luck!

I used to suffer from daily migraines before surgery. I still get them but
not quite so often. I usually go through weeks where I have them daily and
then other weeks where I have only one. I hope this helps.

I developed occular migraines after surgery, (basically a visual
disturbance/aura sometimes with or without the headache). I had been on
beta blockers for a couple years prior to surgery due to high blood
pressure. After losing weight, my BP went down and the doctor began to
wean me off of the meds. As I was being weaned off, I started to develop
the migraines, and was sent to a neurologist for a full work up. Turns out
that they use beta blockers to supress migraines (their not sure why it
works) and that I've probably 'had' them all along, but they were being
supressed by the meds. Once I went off them, they surfaced. So, they've
put me back on a low dose of the beta blocker to supress them, and so far
it's been working pretty well. I only get them occasionally now. Without
the meds I was getting them almost daily.
