Because the surgeon said so!! Also because it will wash the food through
too quickly and you won't get the full sensation to help you know when to
stop eating. Do what they say, because it is for a reason.

Since the others have already covered the "no drinking with/right
after eating" question, I will take the other part. I get my SF
syrups from www.vitalady.com ... she has a large selection.

We JUST talked about this in my support group last Thursday, and I, too,
thought it was because we would wash the food away too quickly. What the
doctor also told our support group was that liquid can stretch the
intestine (NOT the pouch) if consumed with food, which can also affect
weight loss. I must admit, I had been pretty careless about
drinking/eating (it's the hardest thing for me to remember!), but hearing
that made me realize I was compromising this wonderful tool I had been
given. I want to find more info on that, and will share it with you as
soon as I do. Best of luck! Dawn, LAP RNY 4/11/03, 295.5/210/145

Actually, I think that you are also "washing" the nutrients out
of your stomach pouch too fast by drinking closely before or after eating.

Nope, you're not washing nutrients out of your stomach. Most are absorbed
in the intestines anyway. And if you could wash nutrients out of your
stomach by drinking and eating at the same time, the "normal"
population would be having vitamin deficiencies simply from eating and
drinking at the same time, and they don't. It's an appetite control
mechanism, period. (And an important one!)
