You went to the correct section. You just type under what you had then hit
"update my file". It is that simple. :) Just give it another try,
you will do fine, but if you do need help, I can walk you through it. Email
me at [email protected] or if you have AIM my nick is
OhTheresaC . Good luck!

I did exactly the same thing, so don't feel bad! Click on update your
profile, scroll down to "general information" and click on that.
Your profile should come up. Scroll down to the box wherein you type your
remarks, and ***THIS IS KEY*** - move the cursor to the end of your
previous remark. Hit "enter" (on your keyboard, I mean). Now you
are on a new line - type away! Never type over your previous remarks. That
erases them, as you found out. Myself, I like to put my latest entry above
my old entry, instead of underneath, so that the current stuff is always on
top when the profile opens. Good luck!

I think they gave you really good suggestions, the only thing that I want
to add is to copy what you type into a word program (or type in the word
program then copy and paste into your profile), if you do this, should any
of your entries magically disappear, you will always have a backup copy.
hope this helps.
