Question:
What causes ulcers
I am 4 mos. Post Op gastric bypass and just found out I have a huge ulcer that takes up 3/4ths of my new pouch. How did it form and why? Did I do something wrong in my diet? I need answers. — Dodie B. (posted on September 13, 2003)

I know we are more prone to ulcers as RNY patients. I'm thinking it's
because of the lack of acid in our pouches but not positive. Are you
taking any kinds of medications as that would be the logical place to look
first. I'm not sure it would have been something related to your diet
unless you are eating tons of spicy foods and even that is questionable.
Do you ever have any ulcers pre-op? If not, then it might just be the luck
of the draw. Sorry I can't provide anything more. I believe medication
should clear it up good though. Hope you are feeling better soon!

I'm pre-op, and my EGD uncovered an ulcer. They are often caused by a
bacteria called H. Pylori. I'm on a regimen of serious antibiotics for 2
weeks. I'm sure your doctor will tell you what to do. Good luck!

Hi, hope you feel better soon. My ulcer was caused (I am post op) by taking
the medication Vioxx because of my arthritis. I consequently had 4
strictures because of the ulcer and was scoped 4 times in the last 8 weeks.
I am on Aciphex 20 mg 2 times a day. Have you seen a gastroenterolgist
that your surgeon suggests. What does the gastro person say. As the
previous poster stated H Pylori causes ulcers, which is a bacteria.
However, they can be cause by medication...especially since we have to take
medication on an empty stomach. Did they do a scope with a biopsy to check
for H Pylori?
