Question:
How do I know when I can get off my C-Pap Machine?

I have lost 43 lbs. and don't snore without my machine anymore, nor do I wake up a lot from having obstucions from breathing. I started taking myself off the machine when I noticed that every night my machine would dry out my entire throat, mouth, and nose. Even with my humidifier on full setting. Any thoughts?    — Michele B. (posted on September 10, 2003)

Call your pulmonologist. He will likely order that the settings be reduced. It is best to reduce off the machine rather than just quit. It is common as the weight drops that you need lower pressures. You should be retested at some point to determine that medically you no longer need it. My doctor waited till I was 7 months PO and I was then released from bi-pap therapy.
