Question:
Looking for Truly Flavorless Whey Protein

Does anyone have a recommendation for a truly flavorless whey protein powder? Most of the samples I've ordered have turned out to be sort of a cream-colored vanilla, but I know folks have found whey protein that they can sprinkle on vegetables and other post-op foods that "disappears" and can't be detected in the foods. Any suggestions? Thanks!    — Deborah M. (posted on September 7, 2003)

I don't know of anything truly withut flavor. ProCel vanishes into creamy things, like casseroles and mashed potatoe dishes. Alone in water is a very distantly milky in flavor, but not strong. Have you tried other flavored proteins, such as the powders that turn into juice flavors? There are hundreds of flavoted proteins on the market that shake up nicely with water, and yield hundreds of flavors. Like anyone needs more than chocolate, IMHO, but there they are.

I think it depends on how much you hate the taste of protein drinks in general. If you don't mind some, you might be able to think there's not a protein flavor in those supposedly flavorless powders. But I tried one someone else swore by, and I still thought it was horrible. I think it's always best to try a sample first before you buy anything, and even then with the way tastes change over time I still wouldn't buy a huge amount of anything. Best of luck to you in finding something you can enjoy. S

It's a long, arduous journey of trial and error. Check around and inquire about samples. Sometimes at the WLS support meetings they will bring in samples. You may never get two people to agree on the pleasantness or unpleasantness on all the protein powders out there. Be informed as to what IS out there and start checking them out. Good luck!

I use Pro Performance Whey Protein Unflavored at GNC. I feel it has no flavor, but it does make your drink just a little thicker. Not cheap, but at $1 a scoop for 21 protein grams, plus the 8 grams for the milk I put it in, I think it is pretty reasonable. It also comes in flavors.

I read about a non-flavored / undetectable in recipes quality whey protein called Unjury. I saw it as an advertisement that popped up on this website. Go to UNJURY.COM and check it out. I'm pre-op and have never tried it so????

hiya~someday there'll be a protein pill (lol) in the meantime, i've found a couple of protein powders (one whey, one soy) that do a good job "disappearing" into thing. if you mix the soy one into drinks, it likes to settle on the bottom so i just stir before i drink but it "dissolves" really well into casseroles and can be used as a flour substitute in baking (not all flour but a portion of it), the whey protein powder does an exellent job blending into foods -- just as long as they are not heated to boiling temperature (then it clumps because it begins to breakdown) so, check my website, in the files section i have a file called "my supplements" and all the info is in there. www.geocities.com/katebme2002 good luck, i hope this helps some... kate

I read a comment on this site about a flavorless protein powder called Beneprotein that's carried by Walgreen's. Unfortunately, they didn't have it at MY Walgreen's, but their website will tell you which stores DO have it. I look forward to having the time to get it myself!

Add a couple scoops of non fat dried milk powder to milk and use it in your soups, puddings, and drink it plain... you will get the protein from the milk (8g) plus the protein from the milk powder
