Question:
Is it normal to be extremely tired 10 weeks out?

i was like that for about 3 months. it's such an extreme fatigue that you can't even explain to somebody unless they have experienced it. yes, it does get better but it's frustrating going through it....take care...

Yeah I was tired for the first couple of months too. It gets better and then you have lots of energy. You body is still recouping from the trauma of surgery, it took more out of you than you think it did, and it takes a while to recover but you will!!!

Donny & Phyllis Thanks! Whew! Now I don't feel half as crazy as I have been for the past few weeks. I tell you what, though -- it's amazing that my clients haven't fired me because of this. I am starting to wonder if I should tell certain people what's going on with me so that they can, sort of, understand why I have been so lethargic. >^,,^<

You might also want to have your labs run to see if any of your levels are low. I'm about 10 weeks out, also, and experiencing the same fatigue. I had labs done, and my iron, potassium, thiamine, albumin, and protein were all low. I asked the doctor why, when I was eating right and taking all my supplements. He said perhaps due to not being able to eat the first few weeks after surgery. So I'm on even more supplements now, and looking forward to the return of my energy! Good luck to you.

Hey Ginger, I had labs done 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything from my surgeon's office yet. *sigh* I am defintely calling Monday morning. I am a little concerned about these labs, too, because I was told I didn't have to "fast"-- In the past, I have always had to "fast" for my labs for my regular doctor... (when he checked my thyroid levels, etc..) So, I wonder if the results will be different? Hmmmmmmm.... >^,,^<

It could very well be thyroid. I'd go see your surgeon/PCP and let them run some tests. I was not able to get into much of an exercise program till about 9 weeks due to body pain etc. Then I went back to weight training and I found myself so spent it wasn't funny. Some nights I literally had so little energy to get me home. I ended up having to add a partial meal at about 9:00 at night. I just wasn't getting enough food in to support what I was doing. I was going to suggest increasing B-12 but you are already taking daily. <p>You could also be slightly depressed, as being tired and sleeping all the time is a definite symptom. I'd work with the doctors to see what can be figured out. Hope you are feeling perkier soon!

I got like that a couple of months after my open RNY. I went to my PCP and he checked my labs and found out that my thyroid was way out of whack. He had to triple the amount of thyroid medication I was on. Now, a couple of months later, I'm doing fine. I'd get that checked out. Good luck. Kathy

I am just 2 weeks post op from having open rny, done on 8-7. I am also a nurse. I believe that there is something inside you wrong. Maybe you are anemic or something. I don't even feel that tired and like I said only had that surgery a little over two weeks ago. You need to tell your doctor your problems that way maybe he call find the sorce of your problem.
