Question:
Frustrated Post Op 5'5
I started at 5'5" 262 pre-op. I am 24 days post op. I have lost 21 pounds. Does anyone post op have similar stats? Is that about the right amount of weight loss? It feels too slow or not enough. My hubby and I are the only ones who can see the difference. PS I feel great most days, just wishing I was losing more, and wondering if I should be. (Sorry if this confusing I am being subjected to Barney again and losing grown up speaking skills.) — candylnd24 (posted on August 15, 2003)

I am 5'2" and 250 pre-op. I am at 4-1/2 weeks and down only 22 pounds.
Some of us are more resistant to weight loss than others. I guess I will
just be slow. I hit a plateau at 3 weeks and think I am starting another
now. It is frustrating, but we will just have to work harder than most.

I am 5'5" & at 21 days had lost 24 pounds. I am now 6 weeks out
& have lost 45 pounds. I'm pretty happy with it. People didn't seem to
notice until I lost about 35 pounds. Keep up the good work!

My RNY was 5/23/03 and I am 5'2", starting weight 235. I lost 30
pounds instantly and then kept hitting plateaus where the scale wouldn't
move for a week or more. I also got very depressed, thinking I was doing
something wrong. Then I came to these boards and learned that I was really
doing great! I'm 12 weeks out and have lost 50 pounds so far. Sometimes I
think I'm doing just terrible when I compare my loss to other people's loss
over the same period of time. I've realized from reading other posts that
we all lose at different rates and that the important thing is that however
slow the weight may come off, at least it is coming off! And even when the
scale doesn't move, remember that you are losing inches even if you aren't
losing pounds. Just do what you know to do ... get your protein, get your
water, take your vitamins, and move that body! Believe me, the weight WILL
come off even if it comes off slower than you'd like. And if you are
weighing yourself too often (more than 1 or 2 times a month), put your
scale in the closet. I used to weigh daily and I got sooooo depressed (your
weight will fluctuate from day to day). You have lost almost a pound a day
since your surgery, so you really ARE off to a great start! Hang in there!

20-30 is average for 4 weeks out. So you are on the high side of losing.

I had surgery 7-21-03, started at 256, and have lost 24lbs as well....so,
although I know those who have lost faster, you and I are on the same track
exactly....Sometimes it feels slow, and at other times I"m amazed by
it....just keep telling yourself it's going to keep coming off for another
year or more!!!! That always puts it into perspective for me!!!! (I also
have PCOS and was told I may lose slowly, but I"m pretty satisfied so
far---down from a 26 to a 22)...it may take a while before others notice
your weight loss, but it seems more important to me that I notice it and
feel soooooo good about it! Keep up the good work, and email me if you
want to compare notes or chat anytime.

Have patience. The weight was not put on overnight right? Three months ago
losing 10 pounds in a month would have been amazing right? Isn't it funny
how after surgery we tend to become very impatient? For me instant
gratification was a large contributor to my weight and after surgery it
struck again. I too, was worried I was not losing fast enough. My husband
told me to put a sock in it and follow my rules and everything would go at
the right pace. He gave me needed perspective. I ope that helps. Good luck!

My starting weight was 271 and I'm 5'5. My surgery date was 6/27/03. My
doctor told me my goal was around 25lbs in 4 weeks. I did almost that in 2
weeks, but every since then it's been slow going. It's been 7 weeks and
I've lost 35lbs. It's my belief that the the more you weigh at the
beginning the faster you will loose at the beginning. I too like you have
gotten very discouraged, because I've heard alot about this early after
surgery is the window of the most weight lost. I've come to realize that
everyone is different. Besides like another poster stated it didn't all get
here overnight, so I think it's safe to say it won't depart overnight
either.*L* :) Good Luck to ya. I think your doing great!!

Sounds to me like you are doing great! Sometimes people can't notice a
difference for a couple of months, don't lose heart!

I had surgery on 7/15 and have lost 24 pounds. Well today I have gained 2
pounds but I think I am about to start. I am not worried about my weight
loss because I KNOW it will pick up. Just stay positive and things will
happen!!!
