Question:
Can heat cause water retention? 6 weeks post op and retaining...
I'm 6 weeks post op today, and haven't lost any weight in the past two weeks. Last week I came back home to Germany where it's hotter than heck and there's no A/C. I'm drinking 100+ ounces of water every day, getting exercise by walking (not to mention the stairs as I live on the 4th floor). I'm doing the protein. My fingers are really swelling up though. For all the water I drink, I sweat a lot, but am lucky to have to pee more than once during any 24 hour period. The fact that I'm 6 weeks post op and am not losing anymore is really discouraging. Do you think it's massive water retention? Will I start losing when the weather cools off? Any ideas appreciated. — Jennifer H. (posted on August 13, 2003)

Jennifer, I too was swelling around six weeks out. I believe it was due to
the heat, so did my Dr. Hang in there, you will see a differnece soon.

I hit a two week plateau around 5-6 weeks out. It WILL pass. Your body
just needs to catch up to the changes. If you read the archives you'll see
it is very common to hit a plateau at this time in your journey. Hang in
there, you'll start losing again soon.

I too had a plateau around 3-6 weeks out. One week I even gained a pound.
It will pass. Don't panic.

I have done that on diets before and increasing my protein for a day or two
helps get me going. You should be urinating more than once in a 24 hour
period. If this continues for many days you could wind up in trouble with
your kidneys. Try the protein for a day or 2 but if no better call your
doctor!!
