How much magnesium do we need daily?

The U.S. RDA for magnesium is 400mg. I average about 500 mg per day -- half
from my vitamin/mineral supplements and the rest from food (I had the DS --
a very distal procedure, so I take "extra" of most supplements).
I have my magnesium levels tested along with my other blood work every few
months, and they have always been in range and holding steady. Hope this
