Question:
Seeking slow losers who jump started again by joining Weight Watchers

My WLS was 13 months ago. Have lost only 87 lbs. Seems unbelieveable that I eat no more than a 5-y-o, yet continue to hold on to the weight. Still have at least 50 lbs to go...! Was thinking about WW, considering I can't stand the low-carb/Atkins diet. Too many healthful foods are no-no's on LC/A diets. Can't stand that. Plus, following Atkins means eating high-fat, and my system can't tolerate this.    — Bj G. (posted on August 3, 2003)

Surgery 2/02, lost 73% of my excess weight. I've been on Atkins for the past three weeks and my fat grams per day have never exceeded 30 but usually hang around 20 grams. I get most of my protein from protein shakes. Atkins doesn't have to be high fat. JMO. Nina in Maine

I do a modified version of Atkins, eating all the veggies (good green ones including cauliflower) I can consume after my required protein. I don't eat high-fat at all. I don't eat low-fat either. Low-fat and fat-free products tend to have more carbs/sugars than their full-fat counterparts. However I don't consume very many fatty meats (bacon on occasion) and choose naturally lean beef, chicken, etc. I don't know how well someone would do on WW. I didn't lose on it after the first month and my friend who's a diabetic actually gained 10 pounds on it for six months, after having maintained her weight for 4 years prior. I wish you'd given more of an idea of what you've been doing since your last profile update. It seems you were doing great up to your 5.5 month post and then seems to hit something of a wall. Are you eating a lot of carbs? Are you getting in a lot of water? Do you get in all your protein? Are you eating enough? Well anyway, just trying to help. Good luck!

I'm a year out and had come to a virtual standstill. I joined weight watchers last month and had to eat MORE to get to my required points, but lost 11 pounds. My first double-digit month since last January.

I have always been a fan of WW, and when I was on the plateau from h*LL last year, I joined...barely lost anything, found myself bypassing my points on a regular basis (huh?) and, worst of all, found myself back in that "diet" mentality, feeling guilty about food, lack of exercise and all. So after about 2 months I gave up. And the scale started shifting. And now, for the first time since I did WW in 1988, I find myself in the 140lbs. zone, 10s are loose and I (scary thought) just joined a plush gym for water aerobics. Just trust in yourself and the sugery...you may be a slow looser like me, but it WILL come off. Good luck!

hi! i joined WW on reccommendation of my surgeon. i had gotten so hung up in the protein protein protein mindset that i was forgetting a 'balanced approach' to eating. i was upfront with my counselor who has been highly supportive knowing our little 'secret'. i have lost about 12 lbs but really enjoy the meetings. i am learning so much about proper eating and food portions. i think it is a great idea if you let your leader know your situation up front. not to mention i have made some great friends who i work out with too!
