Question:
alternative to Caltrate D??
Does anyone know of a good alternative to Caltrate with vitamin D? For some reason I can't get them down without feeling extremely sick. Perhaps there is another brand of Calcium with vit. D or another form besides the chewable pill. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! — Jill M. (posted on July 7, 2003)

Hi Jill! Since you've had RNY, please please take the calcium citrate! We
can't absorb the carbonate stuff--it requires stomach acid which we've had
bypassed. I also have a lot of trouble swallowing pills and have found
several acceptable solutions. www.vitaminworld.com has liquid calcium
citrate. The lemon custard flavor tastes kind of like lemon yogurt.
Vitalady has calcium citrate capsules. They are easy to swallow. Also,
TwinLabs makes chewable calcium citrate wafers that are like big
sweet-tarts. They are a little hard for me to get down but some might like
their candy-like taste and texture. What I use right now is the Target
brand generic of the Citrical + D. It is tapered at the ends and goes down
much more easily than the actual Citrical tablets. Wonder why they don't
taper those ends? Those always stuck in my throat! Good luck in finding
something that works for you!

Vitalady also has a powdered Calcum Citrate that is tasteless and odorless
and you just mix a scoop in with your food or drink.
