Question:
my ins. says I dont need prior approval?

I have bcbs fl they pre approved me but for Aug.1,2003 but my husbands insurance is done on that day and they may renew with other company they approved me for 8/01/03 b/c of pre existing claus they say they know I dont have a pre existing condition but they just dont prior approve any surgeries until you are covered for 12 months w/ouy proir insurance but they told me I CAN HAVE surgery prior to 8/1/03 my doctor has to submit claim after surgery and as long as I have it covered under my plan and I dont have a pre existing condition they will cover it,and I cannot appeal thier decision on the prior approval because they say I have to have a claim first I want to go ahead and do the surgey in July before my insurance changes 8/01/03 did anyone have the same happen to them and did you have any problems afterwards?    — marie M. Hi. Whew! Honey, I'd talk to my surgeon's insurance secretary and discuss this with her. There shouldn't be any reason you can't have the surgery, and have it completely covered, but make sure you get something in writing from your surgeon stating that they are aware of the situation and how they are going to file. You don't want to be stuck out in the cold and needing medical help after surgery! Good luck!

If your insurance lasts until 8/1 they are responsible to cover things done on and before 8/1, even if the claim is submitted later. I would be more worried about insurance approval be shoved around until 8/1 is passed.
