Question:
Has anyone else used Unicare? I have Unicare Platinum PPO, how well do they pay?

If you call the toll free eligibility and benefits # on the back of your
insurance card, you can find out what your insurance pays for surgery.
You'll need to tell them that you want your benefits for an in-patient
surgery. They'll probably ask what kind of surgery you're having. Once you
tell them gastric bypass, they'll probably tell you that you will need
prior approval for that surgery. Of course, you know that because that's
what your surgeon's office sends in on your behalf.

I had the same coverage for my open RNY on 1/27/03. They were pretty good
about covering things, although I'm still arguing with the non-network
anesthesiologist and there were a lot of my surgeon's charges they
considered over customary and reasonable. But, they paid the majority of
the hospital bill, which is by far the biggest part. Good luck!
