Question:
Does anyone else have problems with drinking water on an empty stomach?
When I drink water first thing in the morning, I take small sips, but it burns really bad in my stomach. I get a very uncomfortable burning sensation. It almost feels like the water is boiling in my stomach. If it has been more than a couple of hours since I've ate and attempt to drink water this happens as well. Does this happen to others? I've always enjoyed drinking water. It still tastes good to me. It just bothers me at times. Any suggestions? — Lisa C. (posted on May 18, 2003)

Did not notice how far postie you are. I had tremendous problems with
water. Turned out to be a marginal ulcer which is fairly easy to fix if dx
early on. In the meantime, try just a drop of lemon or even floating a
lemon slice. Maybe just a dab of Crystal Light. Not sure why, but maybe
changes the pH of the water & lets it settle--at least til you get a
REASON for it. Naked water is very irritating to an ulcer. I had regular
ulcer all my life. It was like swallowing sandpaper.

The only time I have trouble is first thing in the morning... which is a
pain because I have meds that I should take... one thing that was mentioned
at my support group was to try hot tea...something about it relaxes the
pouch, drink room temp water(instead of ice water) Good luck
