Question:
I feel like I'm falling in an endless tunnel with no light ahead. Can anyone help?
It's just one thing after another. I have to wait almost 4 more months for my consult. My PCP isn't happy that I want WLS. I recently found out I'm insulin resistive and have a lazy thyriod. I was denied Life insurance because of my wieght and insulin resitive syndrom. I'm only 30. My house insurance policy just dropped me because I had to file 2 claims in two years (under $6000 each). And my husband blames me for it. I hate the way I feel and look. I just feel like I'm drowning right now. Thank you all for listening. I had to vent somewhere. — Pamela H. (posted on May 10, 2003)

Pamala- Don't give up. It seems it is the policy of insurence companies to
make money and therefore drop anyone who is not cost effective. I too am
insulin resistant & also diabetic dependant on insulin. Weight loss
WILL help with this if not cure it. Keep fighting for you rights to have
good health, life insurance & insurance on your home. For some people
life is not handed to them - they must fight for the quality of life every
human deserves. The fight will make you stronger, stick up for your self.

Pamela, Honey, sometimes it seems like we are drowning and if we can turn
it around, what a difference it makes in our lives! First of all, no one
can blame you unless you let them! You have to stand up for yourself and
not let people (even husbands) walk over you. I know because, dear, it
happens to me all the time. Weight loss surgery won't solve all your
problems but believe me, it does change how you respond to issues. You
will have more courage, confidence, and tell your PCP and your spouse, to
deal with it! If this surgey is something you want in your heart, don't
let all the issues of life spoil it for you. Just hang tough and follow
your heart. In the meantime, don't ever let anyone walk all over you. I
often listen to the words of Wilson Phillips' song "Hold On For One
More Day"....not just because Carnie is my hero but the words have
pulled me through many trials. Especially when I had SLD and felt
despondent about it and guilty. "I know this pain Why do you lock
yourself up in these chains No one can change your life except for you.
Don't ever let anyone step all over you. Just open your heart and your
mind. Is it really fair to feel this way inside? Some day somebody's
gonna make you want to turn around and say goodbye. Until then baby are
you going to let them Hold you down and make you cry? Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change Things'll go your way If you hold on for
one more day. Can you hold on for one more day? Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day. You can sustain Or are you comfortable with the
pain? You got no one to blame for your unhappiness You got yourself into
your own mess Lettin' your worries pass you by Dont you think it's worth
your time to change your mind? Etc." The message is that we control
our own destinies and sometimes we just have to hold on for one more day!
You can do it, babe, be strong and take control.

I'm sorry you feel so bad. I think the insurance industry is a bigger
"organized crime" family than the mafia ever will be. My house
insurance dropped me because I was robbed twice in one year, even though my
total claims came to less than $2500.00. I couldn't get anybody to insure
my house until a friend suggested I try Farm Bureau. (NOT Farmer's
Insurance - they are the weasels that dropped me in the first place.) If
there is a farm bureau where you live, call them. They've been great to
deal with. Good luck - Kim
