Question:
Does any one know where I can acquire a book called The Magic Pill
Have checked out every where, my doctor suggested that I read this book called The Magic Pill written by a Teri Kai Holtzclaw, and I am having a problem finding one that is available. I am currently on a waiting list for 2 copies, as his nurse said that she wanted to read it but did not have a copy either, and she met the author at a seminar in Texas. Any help would be appreciated.... — Tamauralee H. (posted on May 6, 2003)

Go to amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com. On those sites you can order the
book, read excerpts from the book, and read reviews that are by book
reviewers AND by regular people who bought and read the book. If you are
uncomfortable ordering over the internet, just go to your local bookstore
-- if they don't have it they should be able to special-order it for you.

Did your doctor tell you what the book was about? Is your doctor against
WLS???
"Designed to help people overcome severe weight problems, this book
was written by a physician who has done just that. Dr. Garcia has been able
to lose over 150 pounds with the help of the drug Xenical. This book
examines the factors that contribute to obesity, both physical and
psychological, and then offers tools to help readers achieve realistic
weight goals." I'm just wondering why your PCP or WLS would
recommend a book by a doc who lost on Xenical unless he/she wants you to
reap the rewards of the psychological tools. hmm odd

I checked this last night and I think everyone has the book Tamauralee is
asking about confused with another book. There is one simply titled
"The Magic Pill" written by a doctor and Xenical. The other one,
which no one seems to have, is titled "The Magic Pill: A Mental Health
Companion for the Gastric Bypass Patient" by Teri Kai Holtzclaw. It
is listed on amazon.com as not in stock, and I couldn't find it at all on
barnesandnoble.com.

I bought and read Ms. Holtzclaw's book and out of the over half-dozen books
that I have bought on WLS, it's the only one that I wish that I hadn't
bought. Frankly, I don't think it was worth the paper it was written
on...JR

I apologize. I just did a search on the title and not the author. She also
wrote this book but it is not available. This is Not Brain Surgery! : A
Mental Health Companion for the Gastric Bypass Patient (Paperback, 2001)
Author: Teri Kai Holtzclaw

The Magic Pill on half.com is not the correct one. It was written by
Garcia, not Holtzclaw. I also could not find the book that the original
poster is looking for. I'll keep trying and post if I locate it.

Check with you local library and see if they can Interlibrary loan it for
you. They may be able to purchase it through them also.

Dr. Teri Kai Holtzclaw currently works for US Bariatrics in Ft. Lauderdale
as their Aftercare Behavioral Management Specialist. Her book, "This
is not brain surgery...But there is a magic pill" can be ordered
online at www.BecomeYou.net . I know this because I am having surgery
through US Bariatrics with Dr. Marema. Good Luck!
