Question:
Which is better to take?
For normal aches and pains, I was just wondering whis is beter to take after surgery, Ib profin or tylenol? I am 3 months post-op. And, has anyone had any problems with taking this? Thanks. — Melodee S. (posted on April 29, 2003)

I had an open RNY and the only thing I am able to take is Tylenol. Nothing
else. Check with your doctor.

I also was told Tylenol. My list from Bariatric Treatment center is
Tylenol,Sudafed,Benadryl,Dimetapp,Robitussin and Triaminics. That's the
list for colds and Allergy, ect. We got a list for Upset stomach,
constipation, diarrhea and gas also. Hope this helps, good luck!

Ibuprofen taken regularly by gastric bypass patients will cause an ulcer.
Consider Excedrin Quicktabs too which are acetomenophen based instead of
aspirin.

I was told that I could take Ibuprofin IF it was the children's liquid, the
tablets can tend to sit in the stomach too long and cause ulcers with
repeated use.

I also forgot to mention that I have taken the children's liquid several
times (and actually quite regularly from week 1-2 post-op, instead of the
narcotics) since my surgery with absolutely no problems.
