I am 14 months post-op and still take 2 Flintstones chewables a day. I just like the taste and enjoy not having to swallow pills..I do enough of that with the calcium and other meds. Unless your doc objects, you should be ready for pills now and could go to a regular multi-vitamin vs. kids if you 'd like.

Hi, my doctor told me that as long as I am taking any multi-vitamin it doesn't matter what i take . He just recomends the children's flintstone vitamins at first because they are easier to chew up and swallow, but I couldn't stand the taste of any chewable vitamins and started taking the regular vitamins. At first you might want to cut them in half to swallow them, and after awhile try them whole since they are bigger. I have no problem swallowing them whole now and I am 13 weeks post-op. hopes this helps.

I am 3+ months post op and I take a prenatal capsule twice a day. I have been doing so for about 4 weeks now. As long as you try it out and it goes down easy and does not make you sick I would think that it would be fine. I always look for gelatin capsules as opposed to solid pills because I think that they disolve more quickly in my pouch and are not uncomfortable at all to take. I feel better than when I was taking the children's vitamins and i have had better loss since i started the prenatals. I don't know if there is a connection but it is the only difference in what I have been doing.

Usually your surgeon or dietician should give you this information. I am now twelve weeks out and tried taking a calcium gel cap at about six or seven weeks and boy was that a mistake! I felt like I had swallowed a brick, then finally threw up all of the water I was drinking to try to force it down. I tried one again a few days ago, and it is no longer a problem. I now take six a day wthout giving it a second thought. Personally, I would wait a few more weeks. But you could always try dissolving one in water and see how long it takes...then, take one and know that if it is miserable...you "only" have to wait that long! A lot could also depend on what type of diet you are on too. I have just worked to full (normal) foods within the last few weeks.
