Question:
Has anyone had increased Vaso Vagel attacks post-op?
Anyone with the problem would know what it is. At 10 days post op (LAP)I had a serious vaso vagel attack. I had the problem happen once before 18 months ago. I don't believe it is surgery related, but I am wondering if anyone has had increased vaso nerve problems after surgery. My Doc want me to watch myself in case it happens again, then they will start to look into it further. — M B. (posted on April 14, 2003)

I learned that I have an incorrect spelling is is Vasovagal Syndrome or
Vasovagal Synoscope. I understand what it is, I am just curious if anyone
else has had increased problems with it after surgery. Thank you.

I can't believe this! My daughter was hospitalized for this 1 week ago for
4 days until they made this diagnosis. She fainted and hit her head and
recieved 8 staples in her scalp. First they thought she fractured her skull
when she fell, but after 2 CAT scans it was determined it was not fractured
but she did recieve a concussion. Then they the Drs. thought it was her
heart or a neurological problem. Finally, this diagnosis was made. She had
the WLS surgery in July 2001. She has had some small attacks but this is
the first time she feinted. The Dr. told her she MUST stay hydrated and
wanted her to go on this medication that has salt that will help her retain
fluid (there are side effects though). So she is going to try and eat salty
things and try to drink more-but this will be difficult for her I know. She
is 28rs. and has lost 115lbs. If you would like to communicate with her
directly let me know and I will tell her. We both live in the Boston area.

I do not know if it is really increased, but I have had about 4 attacks in
the last 6 months. I am 2 years out. I have had a couple of mine in the
middle of the night. I was having sharp pain in my stomach. I got up to
take and antacid. I woke up on the kitchen floor. With the cold sweats
going. I am trying to watch for any pattern but have not been able to find
one. Sorry not much help

This may sound funny, but I can see a connection between the 'attacks' and
WLS...WLS makes most of us (me for one) constipated...the valsalva maneuver
(straining to have a BM) is a really good way to have an attack. Stool
softeners can help these kind. And yes, the electrolyte imbalances do not
help matters any, so salt is good (although I have to hide mine from my
hypertensive husband-lol).
