Question:
What is RNY Proximal?

Is this different than open RNY?    — sherri M. (posted on April 10, 2003)

RNY proximal could be done open or lap. proximal means how much of your intestines is bypassed.

proximal and distal refer to the ammount of intestine that is bypassed by the roux limb. Proximal is about 50-100 cm. Distal is 100-200 cm. most doctors do somewhere in the middle, unless you are very overweight. either proximal or distal can be done open or lap.
