RNY proximal could be done open or lap. proximal means how much of your
intestines is bypassed.

proximal and distal refer to the ammount of intestine that is bypassed by
the roux limb. Proximal is about 50-100 cm. Distal is 100-200 cm. most
doctors do somewhere in the middle, unless you are very overweight. either
proximal or distal can be done open or lap.
