Not to be mean but did you look in the library section. There is tons of
info on this as it asked nearly everyday.

Good idea but I know I have been on this board DAILY for 8 months and this
is the 1st time I've seen it asked. I guess I'll go look too as I'm
interested to know this.

Jamie, sometimes the questions about this are hid. question within a
question and sometimes it is called an abdominalplasty. Check out question
# 266 on April 4th. Whatever it is. I am hoping I won't have to have
one but I know my belly will sag because I am old (560 LOL.

I don't want to be mean either but who made Delores Lester the monitor of
asked questions and the library, esp some one who has just had the surgery.
Sometimes people are to busy to go looking in the archives for the answer.
I monitor the QA almost every day and I see repeated questions also. I look
at the questions that apply to me in my stage of the journey. As I am
contemplating plastic surgery, I was very interested in this question.
Thank you for asking.

"Tummy tuck" is a generic term that lots of folks use to describe
either a panniculectomy or an abdominoplasty. Before my panniculectomy, my
plastic surgeon gave me his definition: a panniculectomy is the surgical
removal of excess skin and fatty tissue with NO surgery to the underlying
abdominal muscles....an abdominoplasty is the removal of the excess skin
and fat with additional surgical repair (hernias) or tightening of slack
abdominal muscles. Abdominoplasty patients usually report slightly more
post-op discomfort simply because of the additional work to the underlying
muscles, and an abdominoplasty is generally requires slightly longer
operating time. Most plastic surgeons reserve the right to make a final
decision on panniculectomy versus abdominoplasty based on first-hand
visualization of the abdominal muscles during the surgery itself. My
surgeon requested approval for an abdominoplasty from the insurance
providers "just in case", but only needed to perform the
panniculectomy....which made me happy because of the shorter operating
time, and made the insurance providers happy because they had to pay less
money for a less complicated procedure. I was a little nervous that a
panniculectomy wouldn't give me the results that an abdominoplasty would,
but I am excited to say that I am now 1 1/2 years post-panniculectomy and
still have a marvelously tight and flat tummy :-) This is a question that
you need to talk with your plastic surgeon about at your pre-op
consultation. Best wishes!

Dear Delores Sester..... Alot of people post here to have some
communication with people in the same boat as they. We could also get our
answers from an encylopdia or a refererance librairian. Be happy just let
them talk. The best repeated question is the one about smelly bms. After
1000 times no one seems to think that thier sh@@t don't stink.

Goodness, Delores, you poor dear! Here's a hug for you (((HUG))) Plenty of
people have commented from time to time on things being in the Library and
not gotten such a thrashing. And I believe that the Library is a far unused
tool on AMOS. That's why they direct you to it before your question is
actually posted. Unfortunately for all of us, it sometimes is a bit lacking
in its search capabilities. Now PLEASE don't thrash, bash or flame me for
saying that! I LOVE AMOS!!! - Anna

Anna, Thanks, I needed that. I noticed the other day that it does direct
us to the library first and i have often wondered why people don't use it
first.

Yes...get off Delores' case...she does a lot of good around here, answering
questions. We all should make better use of the library, too. It's really
amazing...try it. Hugs to all, Joy
