Question:
What is surgical binder and where does one get one?
Also, is there a resource for pre-op breathing exercises? — Kathy V. (posted on April 8, 2003)

Hello~A binder wraps around the the whole top half of your body. From right
below your chest all the way to your navel. It has velcro on it that you
attach it with. I know it is used in the Open-RNY to help with your
incision. It feels so much better when your wearing it. My Dr. told me to
wear it for 6 weeks that way it would reduce the size of the scar and also
let the incision heal 100 times better.

Kathy~ Also my Dr. gave me one. When I woke up from surgery he had already
put one on me.

The hospital gave me my surgical binder on the day I went home.

I woke up from surgery with a binder on. I also asked for a spare when I
was discharged from the hospital, so I'd have one to wear while washing the
other. I think you can get binders from pharmacies, too (may need to order
it).
