Did you have another policy before you got this one? If you've had other insurance within 63 days before this one went into effect, they can't use pre-existing conditions clauses to deny you coverage. Also, I think pre-existing conditions usually apply only if you have seen a doctor about the condition in the previous year.

I have BCBS PPO, and had the opposite problem. They required that I saw a doctor before they would allow the surgery, in order to be on a prescribed diet regimine. I only had to do this for a couple of months, and then they approved th surgery. I am now one month post-op. I would look into their grievance procedure. I thought that I was going to have to do this, and I was planning to have an attorney back me up. It would have cost $850.00, but it would have been worth it. Luckily, I didn't have to do this. I think the attorney's name was Walter Lindstrom. Look under bariatric surgery+attorney on the net, and you will find him. Good Luck! Jane
