Question:
What can I take for Menstrual Cramps post op?

I've been told not to take ibuprophen and that is what has always worked for my cramps. Tylenol does nothing for them. Any suggestions? thanks    — Kristie M. (posted on March 27, 2003)

I take Vioxx 25 mg (NSAID) once every 24 hours and it works like a charm! I used to take a lot of ibuprofen. My doctor actually ordered this for something else, but it completely eradicates cramps. I always take it with some food, and I have my surgeon's blessing to take it (only need it 3 days a month).

I, too, take Vioxx, works great on the cramping. I take two a day first thing in the morning..and they are small pills...i have HBP right now so I cant take more than 5 days in a row, but its great! And I totally agree about the Advil..it helps all my aches and pains and tyenol does nothing..except the PM version of course :)

Hi there- I, too, have always had BAD menstrual cramps. My doctor immediately gave me a prescription for Fiorcet which does really help-- it also is what I can take for body aches and headaches. Good luck to you !!3 1/2 weeks/-28#

I completely understand how you feel. I was going to suggest asking your doc for prescription tylenol with codeine or something along those lines. I don't know how ba dyour cramps are, but I get horrible ones, I can't even move sometimes. And we really need to stay on the tylenol-based products b/c pills can do some damage to our new sensitive tummies. Goodluck to you!

Kristie, I get massive cramps. I came home from the hospital from my Open RNY with a huge bottle of Codeine/Liquid and when I get cramps, I take a swig. It works. I guess I will continue to do this until the medicine expires. ANother thing that does wonders, EXERCISE! When I work out, they go away. Good Luck! Heather (open rny 8/15, down 102lbs)

BEXTRA!!! It is an anti-inflamatory but it is also labeled for menstral cramps. Take 20mg in the a.m. and 20mg in the p.m. You will truely be amazed how fast it works. Get samples from yor primary doc because most insurence companies wont cover it because its a new drug. Trust me it works very well.
