Question:
Need revision! Need NJ Doc to do it! HELP PLEASE!!!
Hey guys! I need your help. I am 3 years post op open RNY (no GB removal). Bottom line (see profile for full details) is that I definitely now need my gall bladder taken out as I have developed stones since original surgery, but now finding out through testing that I may need a revision due to partial staple line disruption as well. My original surgeon is Dr. Salahi in NJ, but he has retired. I am going to see Dr. Abkin next Friday for consult, but I was told that although he'd be happy to consult with me he doesn't do revisions on surgeries that he didn't perform originally. I can kind of understand that but HELP! I've heard this is common, so does anyone know of a NJ bariatric surgeon who could help me?? I can't help it if mine retired. Also what is the recovery time for gall bladder removal plus revision due to SLD?? I'd like to hear from anyone who has had this done. Help please! Thanks!!! — Michelle F. (posted on March 7, 2003)

That is unfortunate that Dr. Abkin won't do a revision- he is an excellent
surgeon. Maybe you can ask if his partner, Dr. Bertha would do it? If not,
try Dr. Ward or Dr. McLean of Allied Surgical Associates. All 4 surgeons
were associated with the Obesity Clinic in Morristown Memorial Hospital,
all are prominent, experienced surgeons. Goodluck to you!

Thanks Lezlie but none of those doctors will do it. I already asked.
Thanks for the input though. I'm still searching. :o)

Hi Michelle,
I have to have a revision for staple line failure too. Surgery was 4/2/02.
I live in CT and have decided to use D. Mitchell S. Roslin in Manhattan
because 50% of his by-pass surgeries is made up of Revisions. I travel 2 to
2 1/2 hours to see him, but my brother is a doctor and he said that you
want someone who has experience performing revisions. Just a suggestion, I
know that it can be hard to travel, but this doc is the bet AND his assoc
at Lenox Hill Hosp Dr. Kurzian performed Al Roker's Lap by-pass, so you
know that they are excellent. Also, Dr. Roslin is the Chief of Bariatric
Surgery and has performed over 1600 WLS.
