Question:
Seeking Protein- Non Dairy, No Chococate and Tasty- Does it Exist?
I'm lactose intolerant. Plus I have an allergy to anything with dairy or chocolate in it. Does anyone know of products that have no connection to dairy or chocolate, that provide lots of high quality protein, and, preferably, that taste good too? — Robert H. (posted on February 27, 2003)

I use Designer Whey Protein Blast and Isopure Zero Carbs. They are both
very similar sort of a Gatorade consistency. They come in different flavors
my favorite is grape. The bottles, which are 16 and 20 oz respectively,
have 40 grams of protein in them and no sugar. It is refreshing tastes
great. Hope this helps. **kelly

I use a product from GNC. Protein 95 is what it's called (from the Pro
Performance line.) It's an isolated soy protein drink. 1 scoop with 8
ounces of water = 1.5 grams of fat, 3 grams of carbs, and 25 grams of
protein. I use a shaker to mix it, it gets pretty smooth, if I don't shake
enough it does have a few lumps. It comes in several flavors like vanilla
(that's what I have and chocolate) and banana (I haven't tried that one
yet.)
So far it's about the only protein shake that I don't have to cringe while
drinking.
It's not badly priced imo either. :) Good luck.

I am extremely lactose intolerant. I use whey products that are lactose
free. Although whey was once milk, many with dairy allergies can use it.
Makes no sense, but there it is. Must be missing the allergen component?
Probably should try some non-chocolate samples, very small portions and
see. If it is repiratory, whey may be just fine.

You can pick up 10 to 12 grams of protein if you drink a can of Health
Valley Broth (14 ounces). They make chicken and vegetable. Some variations
are low fat and low salt. I mix mine with bullion to make the taste more
intense. I purchase the broth in the health food section of my Giant Food
Store. I understand that Safeway also carries it. Good luck!

Try the vanilla Real Meals. There is no dairy products and it can be mixed
with water. Their site also has a ton of recipes to use with it. It has
60 grams (split into two mini shakes) of 100% whey protein with whey
peptides, that combination is absorbed nearly 100% immediately by post ops
because it eliminates the step of your body needing to create peptides to
absorb it. Go to www.protein-solution.com

See if your doctor would approve this choice: I haven't had my WLS yet, but
several years ago I had jaw surgery and was wired shut for six weeks. To
increase my protein intake, I put canned soup in the blender with babyfood
meat. It was reasonably palatable, with no sweet taste at all. I'm planning
to use this again in the liquids-only period after my surgery.
