Question:
Has anyone had the On-Q Pain Pump inserted while you are still in surgery?
My doctor used a method of pain management called the On-Q Pain Pump. It is inserted in your largest incision while you are still in surgery. The catheter is like a soaker hose that drips Marcaine to the site for 3-5 days. The pump is on the outside and looks like a cabbage ball. It administers the medication on it's own. Anyone had this? — Rhonda H. (posted on February 27, 2003)

I had the pump with my surgery. It didn't work well for me and burned my
incision. I knew something wasn't working because the other woman that had
it with me, was walking alot faster than me! My catheter then fell out a
few hours later so I had to depend on the codeine every 3 hours. The other
woman said it did help her pain. Open RNY 09/30/03 107 lbs.

I LOVED my on-cue!!!!! I didn't even notice it was there! I walked 3
hours out of recovery, very minimal pain. I truly believe the on-cue is a
medical miracle!!

Hi, I had one and it was GREAT!!! I didn't even know about it and couldn't
figure why my inscision didn't hurt more untill the second day when I
finally "woke up" more and the nurse I had explained it to me. It
worked wonders I think.
