Question:
In June I will have to drop BCBS (individual policy) because the cost is too much...
Ive already had my surgery but my biggest concern is the lab work! I know to get my levels on nurtrition checked its like $500.00 just for the lab work...how do those of you who dont have insurance take care of lab work like this? — sandrac131 (posted on February 25, 2003)

I'm not sure of your situation but many places have "free clinic"
or community clinics that offer government subsidized care based on your
income. A sliding scale system basically. What I'd be afraid of in your
situation is being able to get back on insurance in the future. (other than
through an employer, that is). I was in contact with a lady in my state
who had an older version of the RNY over 10 years before and the insurers
in our state refused her access to insurance, other than the high risk
pool/crappy insurance. And from what I understood she was in good health.
Something to consider, if you possibly can keep what you have.
