Question:
How do you phrase an apeal letter as to not
As some of you may have read I have had a consultation for Lap Band however it is pretty unlikely that my BCBSTX will not cover this surgery.I am working now on an appeal letter because there are reasons that I would prefer to have this procedure over the rest. However if I cannot have Lap Band I will have RNY (which they will approve)so my question is how do I write an appeal letter advocating coverage of the lap band without totally trashing RNY since I may later ask them to pay for that surgery? or will my appeal for lap band have any bearing on future requests? Thanks in advance for your suggestions. — Lisa F. (posted on February 16, 2003)

Lisa, Just don't mention RNY at all. Explain why you believe the lapband
is the right surgery for you. You can do that without comparing it to any
other surgery by just explaining the benefits of it it in your situation.

You might consider comparing costs for them. I'm not sure if that would
work or even if it is cheaper but I'm assuming that it is. If you could
show them a savings and also show them some long range success stats then
perhaps that might help.
