Question:
Looking for people similar to my stats - 5'7
Hi all, I am looking for others with similar stats. I am 5'7" started out @250. I had an open RNY on 11/5/02. So far so good, I've lost about 58 lbs. Evything else is fine other than being sooo tired all the time. I am currently taking b12, an iron supplement, actigall and multivitamin. Am I missing something? If you have any advice on how to get more energy please let me know!!! Thanks to all! — Stacy T. (posted on February 14, 2003)

I had open RNY on 10/23/01, 5'6" and started at 300lbs and a size 26.
I'm down 130lbs and in a size 8/10 now! At about 3 months post op I had
lost about 60lbs so it sounds like your going great. As for the vitamins,
you need to take Calcium Citrate too so I would add that to your routine.

Hey missy! I'm also 5'7" & started out at 240lbs. I was also
incredibly exhausted for the first few months. I'd also add the Citrate to
your regime. How are you doing with the protein? Also, increasing my water
intake helped as did walking in the fresh air. You're doing great by the
way! Congrats!

Hi there-
i am 5'7" and I started at 277 but had surgery at 266. Pretty similar,
I have lost 33 pounds so far. I am only a month out (1/15/03) but I am
dragging my butt around. My nutritionist this week told me to up the
protein a little if i can and try to start getting on the treadmill
(formerly the dreadmill) for 15 minutes a day and she thinks that it will
up my energy. I am sad to say that if this does not help she thinks that I
may be anemic. You may want to be sure that your blood work looks okay. I
also upped my vitamin intake everyday. I am feeling a little more
energetic. Good Luck.

I don't know that this is a height-specific thing, but "Hello, fellow
5'7" person!" :D I agree with the posters below -- add 1500 mg
of calcium citrate to your regime (that's three 500 mg. calcium citrate
pills/capsules), spaced at least two hours apart), to avoid osteoperosis
down the line. (And don't take your iron and calcium together ... iron
will block absorption of calcium.) As far as flagging energy is concerned,
I'd get your labs checked. Some people crash 'n burn for lack of B-12
absorption fairly early; you could be one of those. Or, could be you're
still just three months post-op from major surgery. Or, as another poster
said, try adding in a little exercise to pump up your
metabolism.
You are losing really fast ... which is great, btw,
congrats! ... but it leads me to wonder if you're eating enough, or if
enough of that is protein. For whatever it's worth, by 3 1/2 months or so,
I was getting in 900 calories a day (320 of that from protein shakes), and
at least 80-90 grams of protein daily.
Whatever it is, don't settle
for feeling tired ... get to the bottom of it so you can enjoy your lighter
self! :) I'm 8.5 months post-op; 268/151/147 (almost there!).

I am 5'7" and around 250 lbs.. I am having a Lap RNY this Tuesday, the
18th. All of you have given me a really good feeling that with these stats
I have a pretty good shot at losing a decent amount of weight. Thanks!

I'm 5'8" and started at 278 pounds; lap RNY Feb 2002. I'm now down
115 pounds and I have a normal BMI. I'm still losing about a pound a week,
and I expect to lose about another 10 pounds. I'm thrilled with my
"slow losing". It adds up! (PS: I don't recommend it, but I
never exercised).

I started out 5'8" 240lbs. I had my surgery on 4/25/02 and I am down
to 140lbs (size 8). It did take some time to get back on my feet. I have
actually just now started exercising. I am trying to get in shape to do a
5 mile run in May. I was lucky and was able to lose weight without working
out. I have had great results and am very happy. I just have some toning
up to do in my butt/thigh area. I only take a iron supplement and
multi-vitamin. I had blood work just a month ago and was told that my iron
level as well as my other levels were good. I definitely require more
sleep than I used to, now. I rarely make it through a movie on TV these
days. It will get better.
