Question:
Is slow weight loss to be expected after halfway point?
I haven't hit a plateau yet, but my weight loss has slowed. I am half way to goal and my body hasn't seen this weight forever. What does it take to have a rapid weight loss as before? Increase exercise, protein and water? Any thoughts are greatly appriciated!! — Gina O. (posted on January 31, 2003)

My surgeon told me that I would lose 60-70% fast. Then it would become
harder. 5 months out I am down 70% and things are slowing down. But they
are not stopping. I guess this is the time for me to really change my
eating habits and stick to the protein/water rules. I workout 5 times a
week now.

Yes it does SLOW down. My surgeron told me, and I have experienced it,
that the 1st 3 months you will loose 20-25 pounds a month....then for the
next 3 about 10-15 pounds a month, then for the next 6 could be as low as 5
months a month until you research about 15-18 months in which the weigh
loss should stop....unless you have 300 pounds + to loose then it would
take as much as 2 - 3 years.
I lost 22 pounds a month for the 1st 3, 11 pounds a month for the next 3
and only about 8 pounds a month for the last 2 3/4 months.

I am pretty much a "lightweight", starting at 5'2" and
236lbs. My surgeon said 15 lbs a month for the first 3 months is where I
will probably be, and so far, he is right.I am 3 months out and down 45
lbs. (I am also 46 years old.) I also expect to slow down sooner than
someone younger. I also walk almost everyday, at least an hour, at a good
pace. (Have a sweet Rottweiler who just turned 1 year old and he likes to
MOVE! He is a great motivator!)
