Question:
Has anyone who already had WLS, been told to go to physical therapy?
After several knee surgeries, because of arthritis, I always had to do a few weeks of therapy to regain strength and movement. After a major operation like WLS, you would think some kind of physical therapy would be appropriate but I have not heard mention of this in the question and answer lists. If anyone knows if physical therapy is a post-op activity, please let me know what kind of therapy you did and how difficult it was after major stomach surgery. — suehorn (posted on January 30, 2003)

Hi there, Susan! My surgeon required some physical therapy after surgery.
It may depend on your surgeon, but you could also request it. The therapy
was mainly to make sure that you know how to walk up and down stairs,
sitting and getting up, laying down, putting on clothes and so forth. I
did it a couple of days after surgery, of course there was pain after RNY,
but if you still have your morphine pump, give yourself a "push"
before you go to PT. You should check with your surgeon. Vi open RNY
9/23/02 down 101 lbs.

I had Open RNY in February 2002. I had to have my third knee surgery on
December 2002. I came through without a problem. The PT was the same as
before I actually have move movement then before.

to a neuroligist and she refr me to therapy and they found out that my rt
pelvis is not straight so we are working on exercises for this and i have
found out what makes the pain like bending to go to a lower cupboard and
doing steps so we are working on this hope this helps you.
