Question:
I have to fly for the first time since having open rny last July. Will the titanium

staples dividing my pouch set off the airport metal detectors? I seem to set off the metal detectors every time I have to go into our local courthouse, and have to be "patted down". This may seem like it is kind of trivial, but after a lifetime of trying not to draw attention to myself it's a worry. Thanks in advance, Theresa Enright    — Theresa E. That is an interesting question, and I would be interested in an answer too. Me and my new body plan on doing a lot of traveling this year and it involves flying. So that I wonder. I did have to go to City Hall a few weeks ago to pay a parking ticket and I went through a metal detector and did not set it off. I hope we get some answers. Lol

Since my surgery I have been through metal detectors at two airports, the office building I work in, and our lovely Department of Traffic Violations. I have not had any problems with the metal detectors, despite eight rows of titanium staples. Now, bra hooks are another issue all together. :) Don't worry about it. If you have a real concern, ask your doctor for a note. Good Luck!

Just last night I watched a show where a doctor had to put titanium plates & screws in a womans head to rebuild the bone structure after a terrible accident. The doctor commented that a benefit of titanium is that it will NOT set off security alarms at airports.

I work with Security at an airport and go through the mag every morning. I have never set it off. You have nothing to worry about.

Well it will NOT set off the archway tye detectors. But if they wand you it will detect your staples. The wands are super sesitive and also detect the metallic ink in a hershey bar candy wrapper. The wand got me, I pulled up my shirt and explained I had staples. No problem. Flyng is a pain, with long lines, expensive fares since I live at a hub city, airlines that might shut down at any moment and liquidate and I loose my frequent flyer points AGAIN:( Maybe leaving us stuck in transit. With all these and more the beep beep of a metal detector is a minor drip in the ocean of hassles...

Great question, but you have nothing to worry about. I travel quite a bit for a job and have flown approximately 10 times since my surgery 8.5 months ago. I have never set off the walk through detector nor have the "wands" ever picked up anything. You should be all set! :-)
