Question:
I am about 7.5 weeks post op and my stomach makes funny noises...

is this normal? Also sometimes I do get hungry...is this okay? I mean not STARVING hungry...just my tummy growels or gets a hungry feeling....is this bad?    — sandrac131 (posted on January 8, 2003)

I am 11 wks out and mine still makes all kinds of racket. It gurgles, growls and groans. No pain, just noise. I do get hungry at times but the noise seems unrelated to that.

I am 11 months post-op, down 92 lbs (on my scale, anyway) and my stomach still makes noises, although not as much as when I was first post-op. I was hungry ALL THE TIME, and I still am hungry A LOT. That part bums me out, especially since I can now take in a lot more than I could immediately post-op. So I have to "diet" again, and thought I would never have to again after WLS. I think that a lot of it has to do with my head - my brain telling me I'm hungry and thinking "what can I eat" so I still have the battle with myself constantly (telling myself "You're NOT hungry, you CAN'T eat anything else, its BAD for you" etc.). I wish I were one of the lucky ones that was never hungry. Oh well, I just keep plugging along, and try my best to do what I'm supposed to do. Good luck!

I'm 5 weeks out (RNY) and my tummy has made gurgling sounds almost since day one. My surgeon says it's normal, and it's related to fluids in the small intestines. He says the gurgling is one of the most common complaints he hears from post-ops. The gurgling is similar to the pre-op tummy growls we felt as hunger pangs, but I find it a little uncomfortable. Mine is often accompanied by burping. So far, I haven't felt any hunger, thankfully.

I'm 17 months out and my tummy still talks to me, at least that is what I have decided to call it. Sooooooo, I guess we get used to it ;o). It talks to me as I eat, after I eat and just for the fun of it sometimes I think. It can be embarassing but for 131 lbs lost it's worth it so hang in there..

My pouch made a lot of racket from the first time I put something in it until about 5 or 6 months out. As a matter of fact, the first time I drank a sip of juice there was this rumble that started all the way down in my abdomen and reverberated up to the top of my throat. I totally froze thinking something was REALLY wrong with my surgery! =0 But it just turned out to be noise. For the longest time whenever I would try a new food it would make a lot of noise but after I had pretty much tried everything it finally tapered off. One interesting thing for me, my "old" tummy never says a word now. No grumbling or growling. I guess it is happy to finally have a vacation after all these years! :)

My tummy made such weird noises in the beginning, but I am now 7 months post-op and it doesn't happen very often anymore. The only time it really does is if I have a sip of something carbonated, which is rare. But in those cases, my stomach roars LOL I think it will eventually go away for you, it's not a bad thing- so don't worry!

I am two years out and my kids tease me about my stomach noises. I can live with the gurgling.
