Question:
Has anyone ever NOT lost 100 pounds or gotten to goal

Okay - I had Lap RNY on July 11. I'll be six months next Saturday. I started at 277 and so far have lost 90 pounds. Yes, I am pleased but I am also terrified that this will be the end of the line. This is actually the smallest I have been ever! I weighed 185 in Jr High school! SO - I'm scared to death I'll just stop and never see my goal of 135. I work out, cardio & weights, at least 3x a week. (I'm giong to five starting Monday) I dump on sugar and fat and try to stay away from carbs. I take in less than 1000 calories a day. I'm still in a size 20 pants! I have sooo much "stuff" around the abdomin. Will it go away? Will I see the century mark? Will I see 135 pounds by July? Thanks for any advice to a panicked post-op!    — Tiffany S. (posted on January 1, 2003)

SO, what is the worst that can happen? You do not get to goal, then what?? Is it all a waste? Nope. As you said yourself, you are smaller then you have been in your life, and probably healthier too. It's not about a number. It's about health. Some people are not ment to be 135. That is just a fact. Stinks, but it's true. That is what clothes come in more then one size, style design and fit. You still have a large windo of opportunity, and I am sure you will lose more. But stop obscessing over it. It's really not worth it.

Tiffany, at six months, you still have quite a window before the weight loss really slows or stops. I will never get to my "ideal" weight - my surgeon said it was unrealistic to even want to - I weigh about 186 and this is where he wants me to stop. I, however, am 56 and started out at 346. I have lost over 75% of my excess weight and am waiting for insurance approval for my tummy tuck. I will probably lose another 20 or so with it. But as to whether you will reach a specific weight by a certain date, no one can tell you. It sounds as if you are doing everything right - keep it up and you will be successful, no matter what the nubmers say. If you don't reach that magic number you have set as a goal, it won't be the end of the world. You will still be successful and healthy. Enjoy and ride and don't worry about the end.

Hello, i am 18 months post op.. I have had a very slow weight loss.. I started at 313.5 and am currently 220. I stopped losing weight at about 9-10 months post op. I was under the impression that after surgery my health would be better... Well, i am still taking meds for diabetis, high blood pressure, high triglicerite<sp>GERD,and depression. In fact i take more pills now than i did before surgery.Would i do it again? Yes i would because it has helped my self esteem and self worth some. I still get very depressed at times. I still see a very fat person when i look at myself and generally don't have many good thoughts about myself.. Since surgery it has gotten somewhat better..I have to work very hard at not letting my negativity get the best of me..I am not a text book case here.. Most people do get off there meds. and feel better about themselves.. I just happen to be one of the people who didn't meet my goal.. I am 60 -80 pounds from goal. I wish you the best on your journey.. Sharon S.

I can totally relate to how you feel...in fact, I posted a question about this the other day. I have lost about 80lbs and am scared that the last 30-40 will not go. Even though I am now in a size 12 and could conceivably get by as I am, I WANT TO BE THIN, you know? It sounds like you are doing really awesome though, with your excercise program and eating - certainly better than me. I saw your pix too, and have to say you are beautiful, and look thinner than the size 20 you say you're in. Anway, good luck to you - I am sure you (we) will make it!

My surgeon had continued to remind me that this is not a sprint. This is a marathon. You are ONLY SIX MONTHS POST OP! My surgeon has told me to look at loosing my weight over 1 1/2 years!! Also, I am sure that you have read it here before, but muscle is more dense than fat & you may not see the "magic" number on the scale. Take your measurements and in 3 months check them again. The "stuff" around your abdomen may sit there until you have plastic surgery. I think I read a post yesterday that said that the stomach area was the last to go for many people. Your pictures are awesome. You look awesome. This is not a sprint. This is a marathon. Best Wishes in your process.

Hi Tiffany, just wanted to encouge you, what an great job you have done in such a short time, you should be patting yourself on the back. I don't know if you plan on having tt or not, but that made such a difference in my body image, and in my clothes. I'm sure you will keep losing pounds you are doing everything you could, but your body has to have time to catch up with your weight loss, so please be patient with yourself. Keep up the good work, your pictures are great, you are a beautiful girl. I always envy you young ones, you have your whole life ahead of you being healthy and happy. Best of everything to you, God Bless, Susie a fellow traveler open l0/15/01 278/155

I also had surgery on July 11, 2002. I have lost 94 pounds. Please try not to worry too much about what the scale says. My doctor told me that each body looses weight differently and do not judge your weight loss by what other people have lost. You are doing great!!! Hugs. Kim
