Question:
This is a statement , not a question ........
I was reading on here last night and there were some posts that stated their surgeons were in other fields of specialty, well i called today a thoracic surgeon and he does do the wls and i can see him in 3 weeks instead of 6 months . so check out vascular and thoracic surgeons also .by the way i am in san antonio and there aren't that many here to do this surgery , hard to believe as many dr.s and hospitals as we have ....... good luck whomever is still looking ..... — patti G. Hi, My doc is also a thorasic and general surgeon. AND a full time Pastor
of a church. SO yes you are right, they are not all listed at WLS
surgeons.Plus I found him through word of mouth.

My surgeon is a Vascular and general surgeon and has been doing WLS for 20
some years, and actually teaches the RNY procedure to others.

Patti makes an excellent point here. I believe some of the best surgeons
are those who are actual surgeons before they jump on the WLS bandwagon. My
surgeon was one of the first to do LAP RNY in this region. He and his
partners have been doing gastric bypass, along with thoracic, vascular and
other surgeries for years. They are widely published in medical journals.
In my opinion, you're better off looking for a gifted surgeon and not just
a WLS guy! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -100lbs. p.s. My surgeon even trained a
guy who left his practice to work for one of the big "chains"
doing WLS now: $$$

My surgeon, Dr. John Brems, is the head of liver transplant surgery at
Loyola University Medical Center, in Chicago. It was seeing what obesity
does to a person's liver that got him interested in doing gastric bypass.
I felt I was in the best hands possible. My DH thought so, too - in fact,
he is having WLS with Dr. Brems in mid-February.
