hi there :) every surgeon makes pouches different sizes as im sure you may
already know, so i think it really depends on that. are you eating just the
meat on the sub? i had open rny feb 02 and wouldnt be able to eat the sub.
im able to eat 1 soft taco soemtimes. if its really stuffed then no but if
its pretty thin on the meat cheese and everything, then i can but usually
about 3 4ths of it and im done. if you are worried about it, id have an
upper gi done to see whats goin on in there or do the cottage cheese test (
eat all the cottage cheese you can until satisfied, and youll know how big
the pouch is. :) good luck to you

Yes, it is normal for me. I have been able to eat a 4" sub since about
7 months post op. I'm 18 months post op and a 6" sub is just perfect
for me. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -145

Hi, I agree with others here who say it depends on the size of your
particular pouch. BUT . . . if you're eating the sub bread plus fillings,
you have to realize that most of the "bulk" of that sub is pure
carbs (instead of mainly protein). If I couldn't live without subs, I
would order a "double meat" sub, then only eat the bottom
(smaller) piece of bread with it. That way you're filling up on the things
your body needs, not primarily carbs.
My surgery was July 9, and I'm still skipping as many carbs as possible.
For example, for lunch (I work), I might go through the drive-through at
Wendy's and order a single w/cheese (I love having them substitute the
Swiss for the American cheese they typically use), lettuce, extra tomato,
and mayo. Then I tell them to hold the bun and give me a plastic fork and
knife. I then cut it up and eat it. Believe me when I say the people
working there are terrific and fix things exactly as I request. Also, I've
found some fast food places actually charge you a little less as you're not
getting the bun, LOL.
Good luck with your WLS journey!
