Question:
The hospital where I was to have surgery on 1/13/03
has just informed me that my surgeon's privileges have been suspended until further review. I am going crazy waiting for surgeon to call back. Is there any way to find out, through the hospital, what is going on? I called the hsp. but can't get any information. — Stacey F. (posted on December 27, 2002)

Wow! I would be really concerned about why his priviledges have been
suspended. If he doesn't contact you, keep asking to speak to a member of
the hospital's administration and explain your situation. Good luck!

I do believe this is what is called a big giant screaming red flag! If his
privileges are suspended and your insurance company has already approved
your surgery, simply switch docs. I've seen on this site where people get
approved by one doc and then their waiting list is so long they switch to
another. Good luck!

DO NOT PASS GO DO NOT COLLECT $200 and RUN DO NOT WALK away from this
doctor. There needs to be a very good medical reason why this doc's
privileges were revoked. Find someone else asap.

You can't always think the worse. My mother is the head of the medical
records department at our local hospital and doctors can be put on
suspension from not completing their charts. If a doctor is deliquent on
enough charts they privleges are suspended. I would definatly check out
why your doctor is suspended but it could be something as simple as
paperwork.
