Question:
What is fruit sweetner?
What is this exactly? I found it in a recipe for sugar free pecan pie that i would like to make for a party...i would love to try and make the pie but i have no idea what this ingredient is... — Becca P. (posted on December 23, 2002)

Probably fructose. You can buy granulated fructose in health food stores
and some grocery stores if they have a large health food or diabetic food
section. I occasionally use fructose and have not gotten sick from it (I
don't dump on fruit or fruit juice) but pecan pie is pretty concentrated.
It should cook up just fine but please start with a li'l piece just to make
sure you won't see it again in a most unpleasant way! :P Also note that it
is not non-caloric like other sugar substitutes. It'll have the same
calories as sugar, just shouldn't make you dump.

It is probably fructose, which is natural fruit sugar. There's a wonderful
recipe in Desserts...and More for pecan tarts that taste just like pecan
pie....they are sinfully good! Check out my profile page or
www.freewebs.com/recipes-after-rny for the book and some sample photos and
recipes. I've also heard of liquid fructose, but haven't found it
anywhere.
