Hi Debbie I have never heard of a surgeon requiring a fee just to come to a
support group meeting. I think that is rediculous. Your already haveing
surgery there and your his patient I think it should be free to attend. Im
with you I wouldn't have the money just to be able to go to the meetings. I
wuld have to use my email and online support groups. And im sorry but I
don't know of any meetings out your way. I hope you find a meeting you can
go to because they are good to be at. Good Luck

Debbie - I am a patient of Dr. Marshall's and am very pleased with the
program his group offers. If you contact the OSF Saint Francis 800 number,
they will send you an application for financial assistance which will cover
part or all of that $200 fee. This is a program fee, not a charge for
support group meetings. It not only includes unlimited attendance at future
meetings but also your first Bod Pod measurement and 1 or 2 visits with the
dietician/nutritionist. Please call OSF for the financial assistance
application! Good Luck. - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -96lbs.

Debbie,Unfortunately, lots of docs are starting to charge the fees for
"aftercare". I have to tell you, that the $200.00 is CHEAP
compared to the $4,500 I heard of from one member the other day. Try to get
financial support, or explain your situation to your physician, see if they
will take payments.

I am very surprised that a patient can be charged for support group
meetings.
